PersonalI have been involved in the marine industry for over 30 years and now concentrate on marine surveys and design. After gaining a degree in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding at Newcastle University in 1981, I spent 3 years constructing GRP yachts and 4 years teaching sailing, navigation and seamanship, skippering yacht racing and deliveries. I became a commercial Yachtmaster instructor and then sailed my own 34 foot yacht two handed to the Carribean for a season. Since then I have spent 4 years as technical manager and 16 years as general manager of a boatyard on the Tamar River on the Devon and Cornwall border. I have been carrying out yacht and small craft surveys since 1990 but have recently applied and been accepted as an Affiliate Member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). I became a Chartered Engineer and member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects in 1994 and have been designer for the boatyard since then. This has included stability analysis of existing passenger ferries, the design and construction of new ferries and construction of round bilge steel cruising yachts. |
